Dana and Dennis didn't have a bunch of preset topics for the day, but we did talk about...
Our first email from a listener! We will talk about Guided Pathways and equity in future shows (hopefully with some colleagues who are leading the way on both of these fronts). Dennis mentioned the book Redesigning America's Community Colleges during this segment.
Dennis went over some of the topics from the CCCSFAAA executive board meeting earlier this week.
The deadline to submit your Intent to Create form for the Financial Aid Multi-Media Showcase (FAMMS) has been extended to FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30th!
Dennis's "I Dare You to Read" selection is A Mind at Home With Itself by Byron Katie. He hasn't read it yet, but comedian Pete Holmes interviewed Ms. Katie on his You Made It Weird podcast. Interesting - and very useful - insight into how just four questions can make your life better.

Dana and Dennis discussed that today was Day #2 of the CCCCO FARR/CCCSFAAA EB meeting. That's the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO) Financial Aid Regional Representative (FARR) / California Community Colleges Student Financial Aid Administrators Association (CCCSFAAA) Executive Board (EB) meeting. Day #1 is the FARR meeting, where we get updates from CCCCO staff in the financial aid area, then Day #2 is the association's quarterly meeting.
We remind people to register for the CASFAA conference - October 26-30. And, registration just opened for the 2020 virtual Federal Student Aid (FSA) Training Conference - December 1-4.
Dennis had recommendations for two books: Filing the FAFSA (by Mark Kantrowitz and David Levy) and How to Appeal for More College Aid (by Mark Kantrowitz).

Dana and Dennis started the show by talking about Dana's busy day ahead, which led into talking about Email Etiquette training offered recently at LA Mission College. In particular, we talked about how email etiquette is even more important now as most of us continue to work from home.
The training session was based on the book SEND: The Essential Guide to Email for Office and Home (2007), updated in 2010 and retitled as SEND: Why People Email So Badly and How to Do it Better - by David Shipley and Will Schwalbe. Two other books offered inspiration for the training: The Tyranny of Email by John Freeman and Unsubscribe by Jocelyn Glei.
We wrapped the show with Dana's "I Dare You To Watch" The Social Dilemma on Netflix. We'll go deeper into this topic in future shows.

Dana and Dennis were graced today with our third interviewee - CCCSFAAA President-Elect Jana Cox from Santa Rosa Junior College! The interview took the whole show - including Jana's "I Dare You To Watch" selection of "The Masked Singer" on TV. Somewhat of a guilty pleasure - but a good release from day-to-day work and distractions.

Dana and Dennis were graced with the presence (while maintaining proper social distancing) of CCCSFAAA Past-Past President (and current VP of State Issues) Tammera Shinar from Butte College. Our interview covered a lot of ground, including an "I Dare You To Listen To" selection from Tammera. We hope to have her back on the show as 30 minutes was not enough time!
