046 What's Brewing, CCCSFAAA? 2020-12-15 - Closing out the fall semester!
Dana was off handling a small family emergency, leaving Dennis to run the show on his own. We covered a lot of news on the show, including:
- Improvements to the MyStudentAid mobile app.
- Materials (including handouts, PowerPoint presentations and more) from the FSA conference are now available on-demand online.
- Two job vacancies at the U.S. Dept of Ed's Office of Postsecondary Education. [Job #1] [Job #2]
- Forbes list of the best books about higher education from 2020.
- Article at Inside Higher Ed about a new book titled The Chicana/o/x Dream: Home, Resistance and Educational Success by Gilberto Conchas and Nancy Acevedo.
- Article at LAIST about the drop in enrollment at California Community Colleges.
- Article on the LA Times website regarding changes in enrollments at all types of colleges and universities in California.
Dennis's "I Dare You To Read" choices were books from his shelf: Reader Come Home: The Reading Brain in a Digital World by Maryanne Wolf, and any of the books in the Encounter Broadsides series of tiny books on big subjects.
